What’s Really Behind Your Quote?
Minghang Garments transparently breaks down the true cost components of custom apparel, helping you avoid low-price traps and make profitable brand decisions.
Why Are Quotes for Similar Styles So Different?
When you first contact manufacturers, you may receive quotes that differ by 50% or even 100%. One hoodie quote is $15, another is $30 — your instinct says go cheap, but the low price usually hides absorbed costs somewhere.
In custom apparel, nothing is magically cheaper. Differences in unit price reflect fabric, trims, labor, MOQ, quality control, and service. This page dissects cost layer by layer, and shows you how Minghang Garments delivers transparent, predictable, no-hidden-fee pricing.

Fabric Cost: 50%–70% of Your Quote
Fiber Content
Cotton, poly-cotton, high-spandex activewear fabric, recycled polyester, organic cotton—cost differences can be several times.
Weight & Structure
A 210gsm yoga fabric yields more meters per kg than a 280gsm version, affecting unit consumption and price.
Higher density and finer yarns cost more but deliver better hand-feel.
Dyeing Method
- Stock color: lowest cost.
- Piece-dyed custom Pantone: additional dyeing fee and minimum greige quantity, moderately higher.
- Yarn-dyed: highest cost but ultimate colorfastness, no stretch grin—ideal for premium lines.
Functional Finishes
Moisture-wicking, anti-bacterial, UV protection, cooling finishes all add to the fabric bill.
Minghang’s Approach
We present clear fabric specs and consumption per garment, with optional tiers. You choose based on your brand positioning, paying for what your customer values—never overspending on unnecessary “tech,” nor cutting essential touch points.
Trims & Accessories: Details Define Brand Quality

Is that hoodie zipper a generic nylon coil or a YKK metal zipper? Is the label printed or a custom woven tag? Does the drawcord end need a custom mold? These details are easy to overlook but instantly telegraph “premium” or “cheap” when your customer picks up the garment.
- Common trims: Zippers, buttons, straps, drawcords, adjusters, eyelets, Velcro.
- Branding trims: Main labels, care labels, hangtags, custom poly bags, mailer envelopes.
- Mold fees: One-time setup cost for custom logo-shaped zipper pulls or buttons.
Our method: We ask your trim preferences at quote stage and offer high/low options. We believe investing in touchable details from the first order lays the foundation for brand premium.
Labor & Techniques: Complex Styles vs. Basics

Labor Cost Drivers: Complexity, Techniques, and Production Time Efficiency
Sewing a simple crewneck tee may take a quarter of the time required for a multi-panel sports bra with binding. Labor cost is shaped by:
- Cutting difficulty: Slippery, stretchy, or plaid-matching fabrics increase waste and labor.
- Operations count: How many seams? Set-in sleeve or raglan? Raw hem or coverstitch? Every step costs time.
- Special techniques:
- Printing (screen print, digital, heat transfer, etc.)—single color vs. multicolor, size and position affect price.
- Embroidery: stitch count, color count, area.
- Bonding, laser cutting, special washes, etc.
- Finishing: Inspection, thread trimming, pressing, folding, packing.
Minghang’s Manufacturing Advantage: Efficiency Backed by Infrastructure
For performance fabrics—particularly athleisure and yoga wear with high spandex content—we set the MOQ at 100 pieces per style per color.
Fabric yield per kilogram:
Take a typical 210–220 gsm yoga fabric: one kilogram yields approximately 3.3 meters of fabric—significantly more than heavyweight fleece or sweatshirt material.
Since a standard fabric roll weighs about 25–28 kg, a single roll of yoga fabric produces far more meters and ultimately more finished garments.
If the MOQ were set too low, we would be forced to purchase excess fabric that translates into many surplus pieces, creating waste and driving up your unit cost.
A 100-piece MOQ ensures that fabric procurement aligns accurately with your order quantity, minimizing deadstock and keeping your costs predictable.
Our Quality Promise:
We work on a piece-rate system that rewards skilled labor, not on pushing speed at the cost of skipped stitches. The hanging system logs workstation data, giving us precise traceability for every garment—creating a closed loop of efficiency, quality, and accountability. Our labor price reflects the reasonable compensation of experienced workers on an advanced production line, leading to the consistent seam quality you can rely on.
How MOQ Directly Rewrites Your Unit Cost
This aligns with our MOQ Guide. In short:
- Going from 50 pcs to 500 pcs can drop unit cost by 20%–50%.
- Fabric has minimum purchase lengths. If you order 30 pcs, we still must buy enough for 60–70 pcs, and the surplus fabric cost gets amortized over your 30 units—spiking unit price
- Every style/color change requires production line setup and thread swaps. Small batches force frequent changeovers, lowering efficiency and increasing labor cost per piece.
This is why “ultra-low MOQ + ultra-low price” rarely adds up—it typically signals deadstock fabric usage, sacrificing exclusivity and restock consistency.

Development & Sampling Fees
Every new style's sample costs something: pattern maker hours, sample sewer hours, fabric and trim procurement or inventory pull.
- Usually a sampling fee is charged for the first prototype, refundable partially or fully against your bulk order.
- If you provide rough sketches, extra design development time may apply.
At Minghang, we clarify sampling fees and deduction policies before quoting, avoiding the trap of “low initial price, plus layers of later charges.”
Packaging & Shipping
- Custom packaging: branded boxes, self-seal bags, stickers. These are brand assets but require upfront investment.
- Freight: FOB, CIF, or direct to Amazon FBA? Carrier and insurance add to landed cost.
We provide time/cost shipping options based on your launch calendar, helping you manage cash flow precisely.
